Gunfire Erupts at Howe Park Results in Multiple Gunshot Victims in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento County deputies are working a gunfire incident that took place late Saturday at Howe Park in Sacramento at the time officers were dissolving an unsanctioned gathering of several hundred people.

Prior to the Shooting

Deputies initially responded to Howe Park just after half past six in the evening after learning of persons possibly in possession of concealed weapons. After that, a follow-up Sacramento park shooting 2026 call was made concerning a possible physical fight occurring within the park grounds.

Air support was sent to survey the area but reported no active disturbance. However, it became clear that a massive group had congregated at Howe Park without official sanction.

When the Shots Rang Out

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies started clearing the unauthorized gathering by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems directing attendees to vacate the area. Around 15 minutes were provided for individuals to vacate.

As the crowd was being cleared that 20 to 25 rounds of ammunition cut through the air. Gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement immediately began searching for victims.

Four People Shot

Ultimately, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel indicated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one victim's injuries were classified as moderate, and one person's injuries were considered minor. As of last report, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.

Sacramento Metro Fire also responded and helped triage shooting victims at the scene.

Crime Scene Evidence

The primary shooting scene was determined to have taken place along the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Detectives identified further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on Cottage Way. Round impacts were also found in the wrought iron fence near the Home Depot. These discoveries pointed to that at least one shooter had been sending rounds south from along Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot store. The store itself was put under lockdown while law enforcement worked the area. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location throughout the night.

Arrests Made

Information obtained through scanner monitoring confirmed that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been detained in Solano County. Four individuals were held for questioning. Law enforcement units were sent to retrieve the detainees to collect the individuals for questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators revealed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
